Botswana, Capital Markets in Africa — The Botswana Stock Exchange Equity Markets bear continued to take hold on the DCI and LASI as the session saw indices heading downward with the DFSI making gains to the upside. Market capitalisation decreased while volumes and turnover in traded securities were also shed from the previous days trading.
The Botswana Domestic Composite Index (DCI) was down by 0.04 points to close at 10,790.05 points falling by 0.03 percent from its previous close of 10,786.43 points.
Likewise, the Local Asset Sector Index (LASI) was down after the days trading closing at 797.05 down 0.51 points from its previous close of 797.56 a change of 0.06 percent (LASI is made up of the domestic companies and all foreign companies awarded the local asset status by the Ministry of Finance and development planning).
The Foreign Composite Index (FCI) also decreased 1.17 points to close 1,567.91 points after the days trading closing 0.07 percent down from its previous close of 1569.08 points.
The Domestic financial Sector index (DFSI) which is composed of all domestic financial sector companies, climbed by 0.01 percent to 1238.04 points adding 0.12 points to its previous close of 1237.92 points after the days trading.
The market capitalisation settled at BWP 421,252.86 million decreasing by BWP 41.7 million at the end of the day’s session with the Domestic Equity Main Board accounting for BWP 51,148.24 million and the Foreign Equity Main Board accounting for BWP 369,851.19 million.
From a market activity perspective, the total daily volume settled at 125,268 shares traded which were exchanged from the 24,228 million Securities issued bringing the total turnover of those shares traded on the domestic and foreign main boards to BWP 1,502,189.54 million.
Leading the market activity in terms of the traded volumes were Sefalana recording volumes of 110,400, NAP recording volume figures of 4,885 followed by Choppies with 4,215.
In terms of price gainers and price losers there was two price gainers and one price loser today leaving market breadth positive, BIHL was up 3 points to close at BWP 1455 per share and WIL was up BWP 1 points to close BWP 481. Conversely, Choppies was down BWP 5 to close at BWP 485 per share.
